History: |
The alley
of Oakland lies along a curve of the Ramapo River, Sheltered
on each side by the foothills of the Ramapo & Watchung Mountains.
Originally, The Minisi Indians, A tribe of the Leni-Lenape,
lived along the river. The Indians lived here alone until the
end of the 17th century. Purchases made by the colonists in
1695 & 1709 began the development of the valley by Dutch
farmers. |
