History:
The alley of Oakland lies along a curve of the Ramapo River, Sheltered on each side by the foothills of the Ramapo & Watchung Mountains. Originally, The Minisi Indians, A tribe of the Leni-Lenape, lived along the river. The Indians lived here alone until the end of the 17th century. Purchases made by the colonists in 1695 & 1709 began the development of the valley by Dutch farmers.
